Jonathan Szegedi

After a childhood full of music lessons and teenage bands, I left for Amsterdam in 2012 to study Jazz Drums at the local conservatory, resulting in a modest career as a session musician. Parallel to that, I became involved in various community art initiatives as a program maker, coordinator, fundraiser and manager. At the moment I combine this and other activities with my practice as a drummer, producer and visual artist.

Activities

  • Artistic director of Foundation De Muziekstraat
  • Production and tour manager Amsterdams Modern Orkest
  • Project coordinator Musicians Without Borders
  • Project coordinator Muziekschool Amsterdam Noord
  • Drummer for a.o. Kotokit, Melle Jutte
  • Producer & visual artist, original work

About the Master in Musical Leadership

The Master Musical Leadership has given me the opportunity to further expand my practice as a manager within various social and musical contexts. The combination of theory, research and practice-oriented subjects reflects the balance that is often expected in the professional field. In addition, during the course I was able to pay a lot of attention to my own artistic development and I was able to expand my network.

During the Master Musical Leadership I set up and implemented a talent development project for young rappers and producers from Amsterdam North. The practical and theoretical support provided by the course was indispensable. In my graduation research I focused on different mechanisms of value creation within Dutch and European cultural policy. I received the right guidance in this process and the lessons I learned from it will continue to be relevant for my current and future work practice.
