Tobias Borsboom

Tobias Borsboom is one of the most well-known young Dutch pianists. In 2013 he completed his master's degree at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where he studied with Jan Wijn. Additionally, he has taken lessons with pianists such as Paolo Giacometti, Maria João Pires, Jan Boguslaw Strobel, Georg Friedrich Schenck, and Geoffrey Douglas Madge.

In 2015, after having been nominated twice, Tobias Borsboom won the prestigious Dutch Classical Talent Award for his solo performance as well as the audience award with his duo partner Piotr Jasiurkowski. This award allowed him to tour extensively throughout the Netherlands, to record a CD, and to perform on the radio. In recent years, Tobias has also been successful at several other competitions. With Piotr Jasiurkowski he won the audience award and the Who's Next Award at the Almere Chamber Music Competition (NL, 2015). As a soloist, he was awarded first prize at the Grand Dominique (NL, 2012) and the Concertgebouw Entree Kamermuziek Concours (NL, 2006). Additionally, he was a prize winner at the Young Pianist Foundation Piano Competition (third prize and the prize for best interpretation of a Dutch work, NL, 2010), and the Prinses Christina Concours (2005).

Tobias Borsboom extensively both as a soloist and in other capacities. In 2015, he toured all the major concert halls in the Netherlands as a soloist in Gershwin's Piano Concerto in F with the Dutch Student Orchestra conducted by Quentin Clare. With violinist Piotr Jasiurkowski, he played the Masters on Tour series of The International Holland Music Sessions (2013-2014). He performs regularly at festivals, including the Storioni Festival, the International Chamber Music Festival Utrecht, the Grachtenfestival Amsterdam, and The International Holland Music Sessions.

In the season 2017-2018, Tobias has been invited to appear as a guest programmer and artistic leader for the Vriendenconcerten at Zuiderkerk Amsterdam, next to Pamela Smits. He is also a member of the Theatre-Hotel Courage, which will begin its first tour in 2017 with A Room with a View. Furthermore, in collaboration with theater production company Oorkaan, he is working on Meneer Tobias en het zwarte monster, a musical theater show for children from the age of four. Together with his pianoduo partner Yukiko Hasegawa, he played the Carmina burana by Carl Orff in collaboration with opera group The Fat Lady. He organizes concerts under the name Podium Pianoboom in and around The Hague.

In 2017, Tobias released his debut CD Wanderer on the 7 Mountain Records label. This CD is part of a larger project, in which he connects the romantic Wanderer theme to contemporary piano music.
