Matt Brewer 

Double Bass

Born in Oklahoma City to a family of musicians, Matt Brewer began as a 10-year-old prodigy, studying classical bass at the Interlochen Academy with world renowned bass instructors, Winston Budrow, and Lawrence Hurst, while learning about jazz from his father. After graduating from the Interlochen Arts Academy, Matt attended the inaugural class of The Juilliard Jazz Program and studied with bassists Rodney Whitaker and Ben Wolfe. He has recorded three albums as a leader for the Criss Cross label, including his 2019 trio album Ganymede, and his extensive résumé includes work with Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Steve Coleman, Lee Konitz, Gerald Clayton, Vijay Iyer, Antonio Sánchez, and Mark Turner. Brewer is an adjunct professor at The New School in New York and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, has been a guest artist/teacher at the Banff Center, and has taught lessons and masterclasses across the globe.
