Early Music Movement – Past, Present, and Future
Learning Objective
To understand a revival movement, reflect upon one’s own musical past and contemplate one’s musical future.
Course Content
This overview of the Early Music Movement will look at its history, the challenges for the movement today and what the future could hold. We will examine the beginnings of interest in music of the past, the use of ‘ancient instruments’, the concept of historical performance practice, the backlash against and the ultimate success of the movement. We will examine today’s challenges and discuss possibilities for the future.
