Introduction to Advanced Rhythm
One of the most significant developments in music over the past hundred years has been the vast expansion of rhythmic possibilities. Introduction to Advanced Rhythm builds a solid rhythmic foundation, focusing on precision, understanding, and stamina. Through practical exercises based on the South Indian method of verbalizing rhythm, students engage with subdivisions, groupings, accents, and phrasing across all basic tuplets. This prepares them for deeper exploration in the follow-up Advanced Rhythm modules. The core elements imparted in this introductory course are:
• Phrasing quintuplets, sextuplets and septuplets with more precision
• Shifting accent over downbeats and bar lines
• Developing a better sense of rhythm
The course is offered in two parallel tracks: one for jazz students and one for classical students.
