Performing Surgery

Roger Kneebone (Imperial College, London)

This presentation frames operative surgery as ‘performance’, inviting parallels with apparently unrelated domains such as music, drama and dance. It draws on a series of explorations and collaborations which use realistic simulation to open the closed worlds of clinical practice to wider view, inviting participation by outsiders. The presentation will highlight the potential of cross-disciplinary collaboration in making visible the tacit and embodied practices which underpin expertise in any domain.
