Debby Korfmacher

Debby Korfmacher studied Music and Social Anthropology (BA) at the School of Oriental and African Studies (University of London), where she obtained an MMus in Ethnomusicology in 2001.

Since 2004, she has been affiliated with the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where she fulfills various roles.

She is a lecturer in the Music in Education department, in the Master’s Music in Society, and teaches the conservatoire-wide elective Inclusive Music Making.

Between 2021 and 2023, she was the project leader of two AiR projects in the My Music Ability series, which focus on inclusive music-making. Since 2024, Debby has been the project leader of CvA Explore, an introductory programme with the conservatory for young people from Amsterdam and the surrounding area.

As a researcher, Debby was involved in the project Meespelen!, which resulted in the publication of a series of teaching manuals for three innovative instruments designed for students with disabilities - Boundless Grooves.
She is currently conducting research on Wicked Music Education as part of the Arts Education research group.

Debby is also the coordinator of the post-graduate programme in Music Education, as well as various continuing education courses and Healthy Musicianship.
