Alper Kekeç
Alper Kekeç (Istanbul, 1975) specializes in traditional Turkish instruments such as the darbuka and the bendir. He studied music at the University of İzmir and subsequently at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.
Kekeç has been a member of several groups, including percussion group Drums United, the Cununa Ensemble, the Ma'tut Music Ensemble and Umuda Ezgi. With the latter band, he has released two albums. Kekeç has also performed with the Metropole Orchestra, Karsu, Mehmet Polat, Flip Noorman, Artvark and Derya Türkan. He participated in the Netherlands Wind Ensemble 's Bach & Sufi project and played on albums by Turkish-Dutch ud-player Mehmet Polat.
In addition to his career as a professional musician, Kekeç teaches percussion in the Global Groove Program of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and at the Rotterdam Conservatoire. He also gives workshops on Turkish music traditions.
