Phaedra Kwant

Phaedra Kwant plays the bass guitar and double-bass, she sings, writes lyrics and composes. She studied at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, officially becoming the first female Master of Music in Bass Guitar graduate in the Netherlands in 2004.

With her versatility she has made a name for herself at the top of the Dutch jazz, pop and theatre scene. She has worked with well-known Dutch artists such as Claudia de Breij, Veldhuis & Kemper, 3Js, Mathilde Santing, Krystl, Frederique Spigt, Hans Vermeulen, Do, Lois Lane, Charly Luske, Ellen ten Damme, Eric Vloeimans, Mike del Ferro, Chris Beckers, Leoni Jansen and Izaline Calister, as well as with international stars like Debbie Sledge.
In addition, she leads her own successful jazz band Phaedra and pop trio McChicks. 

Phaedra has performed all over the world. To date, she has released two jazz solo-albums, Too Much In Store and Still Listening. In 2016 she won the poll for Best Jazz/Fusion bassist of the Benelux in magazine De Gitarist. A New York-newspaper dubbed her ‘The Dutch Sting’ and ‘Angel from the Netherlands’ after seeing her performance.
