Henk Kraaijeveld

In his quest for adventure, vocalist Henk Kraaijeveld combines compelling music with poetic lyrics and surprising improvisations. To Kraaijeveld, the storytelling character of music is essential, because of its power to connect people with themselves and the world around them.

Henk Kraaijeveld graduated cum laude from the Utrecht Conservatory in 2012 and continued his studies at the Manhattan School of Music in New York with songwriter, composer and arranger Peter Eldridge. He has also worked with singers such as Mark Murphy, Kurt Elling and David Linx.

In 2013, he won both the jury and audience award at the Dutch Vocal Jazz Competition. That same year, he was a founding member of the Dutch a cappella group The Junction, with which he has toured extensively throughout Europe and Asia.
He has also performed around the world with his own quintet. In 2019, for example, the band played with the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra at the Taichung Jazz Festival. They have since released two critically acclaimed albums, Passengers (2018) and Patches of Sky (2023).

Henk has contributed to many diverse projects. He has collaborated with Grammy-nominated composer Miho Hazama, performed with several big bands, and was a soloist with the Ricciotti Ensemble on their Eternal Radio tour. He has also worked with dancers in a project titled In Betweenness and is a member of the spoken word collective VERS.
In 2022 Henk toured with the vocal ensemble The Gents and Bert van den Brink in a tribute to the music of Jules de Corte, and in 2023-2024 he is collaborating with Utrechts Jazz Archipelago in the project Urban Mosaic.
