Ronald Karten has held the post of principal bassoonist with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra since 1998. For many years, he was also a member of the Netherlands Wind Ensemble and the Fodor Quintet. As a soloist, he has performed with all the major Dutch orchestras, including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.
He was the first Dutch bassoonist to record Mozart’s Bassoon Concerto and the Sinfonia concertante, a recording he made with Amsterdam Sinfonietta. He teaches bassoon methodology at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and has given various masterclasses at home and abroad.
