Matthijs Verschoor

Matthijs Verschoor studied in Amsterdam at the Sweelinck Conservatory and won several prizes which enabled him to continue his studies in London and Rome. Among his teachers were Bart Berman, Willem Brons and John Bingham. He performed throughout Europe as recitalist and soloist with a number of orchestras and broadcast many works from Bach to Messiaen, but also neglected composers like Korngold.
Early in his career he started to record works by Bach, Scarlatti, Handel, Beethoven, Chopin, Korngold (the complete sonatas), Rachmaninoff and Scriabin for labels like RCA, Etcetera and Erasmus. His playing is unanimously acclaimed by the press, calling him ‘One of the Chosen’ (Luister) and ‘A superb pianist (Gramophone).

Matthijs gave masterclasses at Trinity College of Music London, the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, the Gutenberg University Mainz, the Hochschule für Musik Berlin and the Escola Msica Berenguela in Santiago de Compostela (Spain).
