Martijn Willers studied at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with Mila Baslawskaja and David Kuyken. Additionally, he took masterclasses with, among others, Jan Wijn, Willem Brons en Mikhail Voskresensky. With his duo partner, cellist Joris van den Berg, winner of the first National Cello Competition in 2006, he won third prize at the 2008 International Johannes Brahms Chamber Music Competition in Pörtschach, Austria. In 2010 the duo toured the United States to universal acclaim. 2013 saw the release of their acclaimed debut CD Dialogo, with works by Prokofiev, Lutoslawski and Britten.
In 2014, after an extensive tour of the major Dutch concert halls and a CD recording of Dvorák’s Sinatina (in collaboration with Radio4), Joris van den Berg and Martijn Willers were the winners of the Dutch Classical Talent Award 2014. In June 2014 the duo toured China, giving nine concerts in major concert halls in cities including Beijing, Shanghai and Xiamen.
Martijn Willers regularly collaborates with various musicians, including Olivier Patey (solo clarinet with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra), in a wide range of ensembles. Additionally, he is a répétiteur at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.
