Martijn Willers

Pianist Martijn Willers has been active in the Dutch music scene for many years. The basis of his love for chamber music, which is a very important part of his musical life, lies in his studies at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where he was inspired by his teachers and fellow students.

The duo Martijn Willers founded with cellist Joris van den Berg was prize winner at the International Johannes Brahms Chamber Music Competition in Pörtschach (Austria) in 2008. The duo’s critically acclaimed debut CD, Dialogo, was released in 2013. In May 2014, after a concert tour of the major venues in the Netherlands, Joris van den Berg and Martijn Willers were winners of the Dutch Classical Talent Award. A highly successful concert tour of China followed in June 2014.

In recent years, Martijn and Joris have formed the Trio Légende with clarinetist Olivier Patey, principal subject teacher at the CvA. The trio performed at venues including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and appears in venues throughout the Netherlands. In the 2023-2024 season, Joris and Martijn also played a programme with violinist Svenja Staats, featuring three works from 1886 by Johannes Brahms (opus 99, 100 and 101).
With double bass player Olivier Thierry, also principal study teacher at the CvA, Martijn recorded the CD Bass ad libitum for the Gutman Records label.

As a répétiteur Martijn Willers can equally indulge his love for chamber music: he coaches students in ensemble playing and accompanies them at performances and exams. He currently works with string instruments. Additionally, he teaches piano as a subsidiary subject at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.
