Marion Schaap
Marion Schaap studied with Wim Pfister en Lex Eisenhardt at the Sweelinck Conservatorium in Amsterdam, before continuing her studies with Benjamin Verdery at Yale University in the US, where she obtained her Master of Music degree in 1992.
In 1991 she formed the Z.o.o guitar duo with Peter Constant. Since then, the duo has performed widely at home and abroad, collaborating with artists and ensembles such as Groningen Gitaarduo, Gitaarsalon Roadshow, pianist Eddy Janning (Erard Ensemble) and cellist Olga Dowbusch-Lubotsky. The duo has recorded fifteen CDs, including the complete two-part Inventions by J.S. Bach in a unique setting on requinto and baritone guitars, and Sofia Gubaidulina's monumental composition Repentance, recorded under the supervision of the composer herself. Additionally, Marion recorded two CDs for Naxos with music by De Falla and Stravinsky, and she released a successful CD of her own arrangements, with shakuhachi master Andrew Macgregor.
Marion Schaap taught at Melbourne University in Australia from 1993 to 1998. In 2016, she joined the Conservatorium van Amsterdam faculty, teaching methodology, guitar building and history, and Classical guitar as a subsidiary subject. Together with Peter Constant she is artistic leader of Stichting Gitaarorkest Nederland, organising projects with the Netherlands as well as the European Youth Guitar Orchestra.
