Laurens de Man
In 2024, Laurens de Man ('s-Hertogenbosch, 1993) was the first organist to win the Dutch Music Prize, the highest award given to a classical musician by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. He studied piano and organ with Jacques van Oortmerssen, David Kuyken and Johan Hofmann at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where he received his master's degree in organ cum laude and his master's degree in piano with the predicate ‘excellent’. He also completed his studies with Leo van Doeselaar at the Universität der Künste in Berlin with top marks.
Laurens has won many prizes as pianist and organist, at competitions in The Hague (Prinses Christina Concours, first prize), Würzburg (Klavierwettbewerb J.S. Bach), Groningen (Martini Organ Competition, first prize) and Freiberg (Silbermann Wettbewerb, first prize), where he was named 'ECHO Young Organist of the Year 2020'. In 2018, he won the Sweelinck-Muller Prize.
Since 2012, Laurens has been principal organist of the Utrecht Janskerk; in the 2022-2023 season he was Organist in Residence of the Contius Organ in Leuven. He is also pianist of the Chimaera Trio, for which he arranges chamber music from four centuries of music history. With this trio he recorded two CDs.
As of September 2025, Laurens will be principal subject teacher in organ at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where he is already active as a teacher of classical piano as a subsidiary subject for jazz pianists.
