Gideon den Herder

Gideon den Herder (1986) studied cello with Monique Bartels in Amsterdam and Clemens Hagen in Salzburg, where he obtained his master's diploma with distinction. He completed his training with Thomas Grossenbacher in Zürich, gaining there his Soloist's Diploma. He also studied Baroque cello with Jaap ter Linden and Roel Dieltiens.

He was named Young Music Talent of the Year in 2003 and won the ‘À Tre’ early music competition with the Trio Otono in Trossingen, Germany, in 2009. Furthermore, he has been the principal cellist for the Residentie Orchestra in The Hague since 2014.

Gideon plays a cello by Giuseppe dall’Aglio and a bow attributed to Dominique Peccatte, both on loan to him by the Dutch Musical Instruments Foundation.
