Frederik Boits

Born in Antwerp, Belgium, Frederik Boits studied with Erwin Schiffer and Paul De Clerck at the Brussels Conservatory and with Jürgen Kussmaul at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where he graduated with distinction in 2003. He also completed the programme of the Walter Stauffer Foundation in Cremona under the tutelage of Bruno Giuranna. In 2003, he was a prizewinner at the international viola competition in Bled, Slovenia.

Since 2013 Frederik has been associate Solo-Viola with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. Previously, he was a member of Holland Symfonia, serving as principal violist from 2003 till 2012. 

From an early age on Frederik has enjoyed playing chamber music, starting his first string quartet at the age of 12. Since then, he has been a member of different formations, exploring the repertoire intensely. He had the chance to play in various ensembles, including playing a lot of contemporary music and appeared in chamber music alongside well-known soloists, participating in performances and recordings of a broad repertoire.

Frederik is also a member of the Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra, where he is leading the viola group and with which he appeared as a soloist.
