Emma Breedveld

Emma Breedveld (1974) started her violin studies with Coosje Wijzenbeek. She continued her studies at the Utrecht Conservatorium and the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where she studied with István Párkányi. She took masterclasses with Yvri Gitlis, Gilles Apap and Giora Feidman.

She was principal violinist with the Escher Ensemble for six years. After that, she toured around the world as principal violinist with Carel Kraayenhof’s Sexteto Canyengue. She founded Escapada, a trio specialised in tangos, original compositions and improvisations. Additionally, she is a member of the Ives Ensemble and the Floreal String Quartet.

Emma Breedveld teaches at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and Muziekschool Amsterdam and she is a teacher, arranger and conductor at the annual music course Verano Musical in Spain.

She plays a ‘Santagiuliana’ violin, courtesy of the Nationaal Muziekinstrumenten Fonds (NMF).
