David Lodewyckx studied music theory at the Lemmensinstituut in Leuven (2003), musicology at KU Leuven (2007), and a year of historical music theory at the Schola Cantorum in Basel (2014). As a researcher at KU Leuven he has been involved in various projects concerning 18th-century form analysis (2007-2012). Since 2014 he has been working on a PhD thesis around "Marpurg's Galant Cadence." In addition, David has taught music history and music theory at different institutions. He has taught music theory at the Maastricht Conservatory since 201), both in the general theory programme as well as music theory as a principal subject. As of September 2020 he is a teacher of theoretical subjects at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. His principal interests are in historical approaches to music theory, such as partimento, solfeggio, and historical compositional approaches.
