Camiel Jansen

Camiel Jansen studied jazz double bass and composition at Codarts Rotterdam and continued his studies at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen. Subsequently, he studied at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam until 2015, where he now teaches Entrepreneurship in the Classical department.

Camiel composes for various orchestras and ensembles. He has collaborated with Asko | Schönberg, the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, and JongMetrople, for instance. Although his music leans on contemporary music, he incorporates many influences from classical music, jazz, and folk music, always starting from a theme or story. For example, he has written pieces inspired by the Dutch Child Bebefits Scandal or human expeditions to Mars in the future.

In 2022, he won the Keep an Eye Production Prize and in 2023, he won the Rogier van Otterloo Award.
