Bart de Graaf
Bart de Graaf (1983) obtained master degrees in piano, musicology and music theory. In the field of music theory he has a particular interest in analysis and its connections to music history and musical performance. He graduated cum laude from the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague with a published thesis on this subject, entitled Performing Music Theory. Since then he has given several presentations at, among others, symposia of the Dutch Society for Music Theory and the Institut für Musikwissenschaft in Berlin.
Bart teaches Music History at the Conservatory of Maastricht and Music Theory at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. He also writes and presents programme notes for concert halls and orchestras every week, including The Concertgebouw and the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. As a pianist, he is performing Mozart's Eighth Piano Concerto this season.
Before Bart started teaching, he worked as a project manager at Muziekgebouw Eindhoven and gained years of experience as a programmer at venues including De Toonzaal in 's-Hertogenbosch.
In his spare time, Bart is an avid endurance athlete, with completing the Ironman as the sporting highlight of 2025.
