Workshop on Kapsberger
Lutenists taking part in the Early Music Winter Weekend 2018 can come with any repertoire they want, but we will also use part of the available time for a workshop on
Giovanni Girolamo Kapsperger (c. 1581-1651)
Inventione nuove, et belle
with tenor Charles Daniels, specialist in 17thC monody, and Fred Jacobs.
Kapsperger’s works for lute, theorbo and voice with theorbo (or b.c.) excel in a virtuoso display of ornamentation, spicy dissonances and great possibilities for ‘sprezzatura’. Looking at a variety of toccate, arie and motetti we will experiment, compare and try to shed new light on one of the cornerstones of the Roman Baroque.
Lutenists, please bring your singers or stimulate singers to participate!
