Master Degree: Piano Trio

The Piano Trio master degree programme coaches piano trios to attain a high performance standard. The programme concentrates on interpretative, technical, and business aspects of the ensemble and prepares the ensemble for a successful (international) career. That is why participation in and preparation for competitions is part of the programme. In addition, students each work individually on the development of their own instrumental and interpretative skills.

For admission to the programme, students are to perform as a piano trio. However, the programme is flexible and working with other instrumentalists and vocalists is possible if called for by the repertoire. Admission requirements include a bachelor’s degree in violin, cello or piano and a potential master’s performance standard of the ensemble applying for admission.

The piano trios will by coached by the renowned Osiris Trio. International specialists will also give masterclasses and guest tutoring. In addition, students may request coaching by the teachers of principal subjects and specialists in early and contemporary music, during which the theoretical fundaments of the repertoire will also receive extensive attention. Newly composed repertoire, scores with barely dried ink, will also be pursued in cooperation with contemporary composers.

The entrepreneurship course addresses various business angles of the professional field. This course will be given by specialists in the field of chamber music. Another important part of the programme is the research project, which explores a subject related to the piano trio.

Audition candidates will be selected on the basis of a video recording to be submitted digitally via the application form. The repertoire for the recording is the same repertoire as for the live audition. Recordings must be received by February 1st at the latest
