The Leerorkest ('learning orchestra') is a musical and social project that teaches children not only to play together, but also to live together. It offers an innovative form of music education in and around the elementary school. The Leerorkest is regularly invited for guest lessons at the CvA to introduce students to this way of making music with (young) children.

Students gain insight into the difference between teaching at a music school and teaching at the Leerorkest. They can also assist with the Leerorkest lessons, in order to gain experience with teaching groups. 

The Leerorkest organises the Summer Music School for youngsters between 8 and 14 years old at Muziekcentrum Zuidoost, a music education programme during the last week of the summer holidays. In cooperation with the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, the Netherlands Wind Ensemble and Nieuw Vocaal Amsterdam, participants will receive daily instrumental lessons, choral singing, composition workshops and band lessons. The week is concluded with a special concert.
