‘Immersive audio is the future,’ says Joachim Junghanss, Associate Director and Head of Jazz and Pop Music. ‘From music production to virtual reality development, the shift to 3D and spatial audio is not a trend but an evolution. Demand for expertise in immersive audio is growing. Investing in education now means relevance for CvA alumni in the future music industry. Because the future of music needs not only technicians, but musicians, composers, educators and producers who use technology to create meaningful artistic impact.’
Attie Bauw, teacher and initiator of the master programme, says: ‘A key motivation for me is bringing together top experts and driven students who together are shaping the future of 3D audio. Experience and curiosity reinforce each other and are the ideal foundation for innovation in creative and technical applications, now and in the future!’
The master's programme is both theoretically and practically oriented: students gain insight into the latest techniques in 3D audio and learn to apply them creatively and artistically in various genres. Interdisciplinary collaboration is a spearhead: students set up projects with other departments in a variety of genres, from classical, jazz and pop to electronic music, film, games and live performance. The conservatoire provides the ideal breeding ground for this: the institute represents all genres, allowing students to develop across the board and specialise in the direction of their choice. After two years, students will have developed into creative professionals who are well equipped to work in the world of 3D audio and help shape innovations.
