Composer and alumnus Hans Nieuwenhuijsen has been awarded the prestigious Crystal Pine Award at the International Sound & Film Music Festival (ISFMF) for his work on the animated film I’m Perfectly Fine, directed by Dario van Vree. The film, based on the book Burnout Diary, explores themes of burnout and panic attacks, with Nieuwenhuijsen’s score playing a critical role in conveying the emotional depth of the story. Being nominated for the award placed Nieuwenhuijsen alongside Oscar and BAFTA nominees and winners such as Mark Ulano, Stuart Wilson, and Wayne Pashley.
Nieuwenhuijsen’s score plays a critical role in conveying the emotional depth of the story. The composition stands out for its innovative use of modular synthesizers, which were employed to reflect the unpredictable and intense mental state of the film’s protagonist. The score was further elevated by the vocal performance of Annelotte Coster, whose contributions added a personal and emotional layer to the music. Together, the combination of electronic soundscapes and Coster’s voice brought a unique dynamic to the film’s soundtrack.
Hans Nieuwenhuijsen graduated from the master's programme in Composing for Film in 2016 and is now a teacher at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.
