Pitou awarded ‘Cultuurfonds Pop Stipendium 2024’

Singer Pitou is winner of the ‘Cultuurfonds Pop Stipendium 2024’. She received the award, an amount of € 10.000,-, during Eurosoning Noorderslad on 20 January.The amount is to be put towards a next step in her musical career. 

The jury was enthusiastic about Pitou's development. 'Pitou is ambitious and deliberately chooses her path,' the jury report said. 'Winning the Stipendium comes at the perfect time for her. She wants to use part of the prize money to further educate herself to make even more informed music and work with other musicians, another part she is happy to put towards a recording.'

Pitou graduated from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam’s Pop Department in 2017. Since then, she has developed into a singer with a unique sound and distinctive compositions combining her background in classical and world music into her signature folk noir style. In 2023, she released her critically acclaimed debut album Big Tear.

The band SMANDEM, which was also nominated, was awarded an amount of € 2.500,- . SMANDEM is formed by CvA-alumni Aäron Bouwman, bass; David van der Grinten, keyboards; Rafael Sinay, guitar, en Kick Woudstra, drums. 

Pop Stipendium
With the Pop Stipendium, the Dutch Cultuurfonds invests in talented pop musicians. Three artists or bands are nominated by a jury consisting of professionals from the pop sector. This award stimulates a promising pop artist or band to further develop and take the next step in their music career.
