The Conservatorium van Amsterdam proudly congratulates TINASE, a jazz trombone group with rhythm section, on winning the the Kai Winding Jazz Trombone Ensemble Competition of the International Trombone Association. This unique and energetic ensemble consists of trombonists Alvaro Zarzuela, Bart Bergmans, Maarten Combrink, and Jeroen Vermazeren, along with a swinging rhythm section featuring Auke de Vries on drums, Chris Muller on piano, Julian Wittich on contrabass, and Olav Schoorlemmer as a substitute trombonist for Alvaro. TINASE convinced the judges of the International Trombone Association with their exceptional musicianship and approach to jazz trombone.
Inspired by the natural elements represented in their name, TINASE draws upon the strength, dedication, passion, energy, unpredictability, and creativity of titanium (Ti), sodium (Na), and selenium (Se). Their fusion of these elements results in a unique sound that is sure to impress jazz audiences. Furthermore, each letter in TINASE stands for "This Is Not A Saxophone Ensemble," reflecting the deliberate absence of saxophones in their line-up.
All members of TINASE are CvA students and are dedicated to exploring the possibilities of the trombone in a jazz setting. With experience in renowned orchestras such as the Metropole Orkest, Orkest Koninklijke Luchtmacht, and the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw, they demonstrate their versatility and range in this exceptional ensemble.
