On September 15, the Academy for Musicology and Musicianship Amsterdam (AMMA) was festively launched. The AMMA is a new study programme created by the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and the University of Amsterdam for music students who seek scientific and theoretical depth. About sixty students from both the CvA and the UvA have enrolled in the first year.
The AMMA was developed by Michiel Schuijer, Head of Research at the CvA, who received a Comenius Leadership Fellowship of €500,000 for this purpose. The programme aims to meet the demand from today's professional practice for musicians who can not only perform at a top level artistically, but who also have academic competencies. The AMMA makes it easier to combine a conservatory study with the Musicology study at the UvA through courses which have been especially designed for this programme.
