Joachim Junghanss appointed associate-director and head of Jazz and Pop

The Conservatorium van Amsterdam is pleased to announce that Joachim Junghanss will be appointed as associate director and head of Jazz and Pop on 1 September. He succeeds Edo Righini.  

Joachim Junghans is currently Artistic Director of Conservatorium Maastricht. As part of his career as musician and educator, he worked as a teacher at Manhattan School of Music in New York and Chief Academic Officer at True School of Music in Mumbai, India and also as managementconsultant at Boston Consulting Group.  

Janneke van der Wijk: 'With Joachim Junghanss we will have an associate director who is both very experienced as a player in the international jazz scene, as well as a very experienced manager with a big heart for education. Responsible for professional music education at home and abroad, he has lifted it to a higher level. With his qualities as a musician, teacher and manager and his innovative ideas, he is an asset to our school. We are very much looking forward to working with him!”  

A Fulbright grantee, Joachim studied jazz piano and composition at master and doctoral level at Manhattan School of Music (MSM) in New York. He joined MSM’s the faculty and earned his DMA degree with academic honors. Joachim is an alumnus of Hochschule für Musik in Leipzig where he studied jazz piano as Meisterschüler of Richie Beirach. He holds diplomas as a double major in jazz and classical piano and instrumental pedagogy from the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München.
