Percussionist Steije Maurer (16) has won first prize at the World Bach Competition in the category ‘High school - Instrumental’. The World Bach Competition was organised by the Boulder Bach Festival, and took place on the festival’s YouTube channel, as it wasn’t possible to hold a live competition this year. 273 musicians from 39 countries submitted a video, which was judged by a professional jury made up of several Bach specialists. Steije Maurer studies with Ramon Lormans at the Sweelinck Academy/Percussion Friends class of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. Percussion Friends has been teaching percussion students at the CvA since 2012, many of whom have embarked on successful careers in leading orchestras and ensembles, and as soloists, like Dominique Vleeshouwers (winner of the Dutch Music Prize 2020).
