Stefan Bele (2002) has won first prize at the Prinses Christina Composition Competition 2017 in the category ‘age 12-14’. This is the second time Stefan is a prizewinner at this competition; two years ago he was also awarded the first prize. Furthermore, May 2017 saw the premiere of one of Stefan’s compositions for orchestra, in a performance by the Flanders Philharmonic Orchestra in Antwerp. Stefan studies composition with Martijn Hooning and piano with Marianne Boer at the Sweelinck Academy, the Conservatorium van Amsterdam’s national programme for exceptionally gifted children.
The jury, consisting of Wim Henderickx, Hans Koolmees, Roel van Oosten, Mayke Nas, Robin de Raaff en Calliope Tsoupaki, selected a total of seven winners from about thirty compositions. Floris Heijdra (16), composition student in the preparatory programme, received an honourable mention.
