Aidan Mikdad wins Concertgebouw Young Talent Award

Pianist Aidan Mikdad (15) has won the fifth Concertgebouw Young Talent Award. According to Simon Reinink, Director of Het Concertgebouw, Aidan Mikdad is an exceptionally gifted musician. ‘We are very happy to present Aidan with the Concertgebouw Young Talent Award, because he has the talent, ambition and motivation to become one of the best performers in his field.’

Aidan studies with Mila Baslawskaja in the first year of the bachelor’s degree programme at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. Already he has won several prestigious prizes, such as first prize at the International Piano Competition of Lagny-sur-Marne (2014) and first prize at the Royal Concertgebouw Competition (2013). Last year the won the Italian Premio Internazionale Pianistico ‘A. Scriabin’ in the category ‘pianists up to 35 years of age’, being by far the youngest contestant.

The Concertgebouw Young Talent Award aims to give young talented musicians the opportunity to break through on an international level and to perform in major concert halls in Europe and beyond. Former winners of the award are pianists Lucas and Arthur Jussen (2011), violinist Noa Wildschut (2013), soprano Laetitia Gerards (2014) and recorder player Lucie Horsch (2015); Noa, Laetitia en Lucie being (former) Conservatorium van Amsterdam students.
