Renowned improvising violinist Tim Kliphuis has been appointed teacher of improvisation at the string faculty. As the craft of improvisation can be a essential tool for any musician, Tim’s appointment marks the start of a new subject offered within the curriculum of the string department.

Sven Arne Tepl, Director of Classical Music/Vice-Principal: ‘We are very pleased that Tim will join our team. Originally classically trained he has become one of the most exciting improvisers on the violin. Being able to step out of the comfort zone can open totally new horizons for us classical players.’

Award-winning violinist Tim Kliphuis is one of the world's top improvising violinists, a popular tutor and author of a best-selling jazz violin book. His boundary-crossing approach to music has led to collaborations with Richard Galliano, Frankie Gavin, Daniel Hope, Netherlands Chamber Orchestra and Celtic Connections festival, as well as tours from Canada to Russia. Kliphuis gives workshops and masterclasses worldwide at a growing number of festivals, summer schools, conservatoires and competitions and curates a festival of the violin in De Doelen.
