The album A Self-Strewn Portrait, by alumna Sun-Mi Hong and her Sun-Mi Hong Quintet, has been awarded an Edison Jazz 2021 in the category ‘National’. 'World class,’ says the jury. ‘Sun-Mi Hong's compositions build up tension well and remain fascinating because composed and free passages flow seamlessly into each other. Subtle and probing rhythms alternate with driving percussion.'

Sun Mi Hong graduated from the master's programme in drums jazz at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam in 2017. The members of her band - Alessandro Fongaro, bass; Nicolò Francesco Ricci, saxophone; Youngwoo Lee, piano, and Alistair Payne, trumpet - are also (former) CvA students.
