Violinist Maria Milstein has been awarded the Dutch Music Prize. She will receive the prize on Saturday January 27th at the Concertgebouw, after her concert with the Residentie Orkest, when she will play Max Bruch’s first violin concerto.

The Dutch Music Prize is the highest award in the Netherlands in the field of classical music, and is awarded by the Ministry of Culuture. Former winners include pianists Hannes Minnaar and Ronald Brautigam, harpists Remy van Kesteren, Lavinia Meijer and Gwyneth Wentink, double bassist Rick Stotijn, cellists Pieter Wispelwey and Quirine Viersen, violinists Janine Jansen and Liza Ferschtman, saxophonist Ties Mellema, recorder player Erik Bosgraaf, guitarist Izhar Elias and mezzo-soprano Christianne Stotijn. Many of them are Conservatorium van Amsterdam graduates. 

Maria Milstein (Moscow, 1985) studied at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with Ilya Grubert and has been a teacher of violin as a principal subject at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam since 2014. She is a prizewinner of major international competitions. She also won the Concertgebouw Vriendenkrans Competition and the Kersjes Prize and received a fellowship from the prestigious Borletti-Buitoni Trust. Her debut cd Sounds of War, which she recorded with pianist Hanna Shybayeva, was awarded an Edison Klassiek. In addition to her solo career, Maria is a member of the renowned Van Baerle Trio, with pianist Hannes Minnaar and cellist Gideon den Herder. Their debut cd was also awarded an Edison Klassiek.
