On November 15, Pianist Daan Kortekaas won the Frans Schreuder Prize, awarded by the European Piano Teachers Association (EPTA).

Daan was awarded the prize for his master research thesis ‘De toetsenist als slagwerker’ (The keyboard player as percussionist). The jury was impressed by the quality of the research, which addresses a topic which has been rather neglected up to now: the pianist in the symphony orchestra. ‘As of now, Daan Kortekaas may be seen as a pioneer who has put focus on this topic in our profession and our study programmes,’ the jury wrote.

Daan graduated from the master degree programme at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam in June 2014. Last year the prize was awarded to Kaja Draksler, who graduated from the CvA master degree programme in Composition in 2013.
