On Saturday 7 October 2023, the Conservatorium van Amsterdam will host the seminar ‘Taking Responsibility’. The seminar focuses on the question: 'How can the conservatoire contribute to socially engaged musicianship and teaching, both inside and outside the walls of the building?'

The seminar is an initiative of students and teachers of the Master in Musical Leadership and the master elective Music for an Inclusive Society. During this seminar, we explore within an activist context how students, teachers and alumni of the CvA and beyond can contribute to initiatives, discussions and projects in their own studies and work and in their (later) professional practice. High artistic value and taking social responsibility do not have to be mutually exclusive but can actually reinforce each other.  

Guest speakers and workshop leaders are Jerry Afriyie, Joanne Smolders and Niek Putman. Each of them engages with this topic in their own inspiring way; as an activist, as an artist, or as a member of a community.
