Steven Bruns teaches music theory and analysis at the University of Colorado Boulder, where he has served as Associate Dean for Graduate Studies in the College of Music since 2006. His research has focused on the music of Gustav Mahler, Alma Schindler Mahler,  Stravinsky, and especially George Crumb (b. 1929). Bruns organized Crumb’s archive for the Music Division of the Library of Congress, and his work is informed by the composer’s manuscript sketches, drafts, correspondence, and related documents.
