Maartje Meijer
Maartje Meijer (1985) is a driven musician and versatile leader with an impressive portfolio in the world of music and higher education. She studied jazz vocals and piano at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and is currently completing a European Executive MBA in Brussels.
Maartje's career is characterised by a strong educational vision, artistry, and great reflective ability. As a performing musician and bandleader, she has performed at renowned festivals and venues both at home and abroad. She has performed her compositions at venues such as the Bimhuis, Concertgebouw, TivoliVredenburg, and the North Sea Jazz Festival, as well as in Tallinn, Salzburg, and New York. As an arranger and conductor, she has worked for the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw, Jong JOC, Ruben Hein, Josée Koning, Dienst Zonder God (Rode Hoed), and internationally with Matthew Herbert (United Kingdom).
Her artistic versatility is evident in her genre-transcending compositions commissioned for literature and poetry events, such as the Joost Zwagermanlezing and the recent laudation for Anjet Daanje during the Haagse Literatuurprijzen.
Additionally, she has worked as a teacher, project leader and coordinator of the Junior Jazz College at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. As of 1 September 2024, she is Associate Director and Head of Classical Music at the CvA.
