7th International Saxophone Week

13-17 April 2010
Artistic director, Arno Bornkamp

We are happy to present to you the seventh edition of the International Saxophone Week.
This year the Conservatorium van Amsterdam celebrates its 125 year of existence and we have been trying to 'compose' an extra luxury edition of the ISW with extra concerts, workshops and lectures, of which the majority will be dedicated to the most important source of any musical form: improvisation.

We will approach this theme from different angles: jazz improvisation, improvisation as the base of written music, teaching improvisation, improvisation in group context, etc. Additionally, we are happy to present a beautiful concert schedule with our guest and CVA teachers in lunchtime and evening concerts. Some teachers, such as Lutz Koppetsch and Harry Cherrin, are brilliant CVA alumni, others, such as Claude Delangle, and Phillppe Bracquart, are former ISW guest teachers. undefinedNicolas Prost is a new guest, Willem van Merwijk and undefinedArno Bornkamp are CVA teachers and we are happy to welcome back our former CVA teacher Henk van Twillert.

The 'heart' of the ISW have always been the private lessons. We are happy to receive students 'from everywhere' to take part in the week. A new element will be, that all students, CVA and external, will be able to perform during the big Final Concert on Saturday, 17th of April in the grand hall of the Conservatory, the Bernard Haitinkzaal. During this concert the results of the workshops will be presented, followed by a performance of the CVA Saxophone Ensemble, conducted by Pablo Rus Broseta.

And last but not least: Saturday the 17th of April will also be the Day of the Sponsors. In our Theaterzaal we all will be gathered together for their product presentations. From the 13th up to 17th April Amsterdam will be the heart of classical saxophone. We hope to welcome many active participants and auditors to be part of it!
