Julia Oschewsky & band

Folkert Oosterbeek - piano

Guillermo Celano - guitar

Julius Peter Nitsch - doublebass

Felix Schlarmann - drums

Julia Oschewsky knows how to surprise with interesting compositions. The interaction of her musicians is subtle, improvisation and theatrical melodies melt in an unfamiliar way, catchy musical themes find their place within expressive arrangements. She studied Jazz vocals at the Conservatory of Amsterdam and the Manhattan School of Music in New York with a.o. Lydia van Dam, Theo Bleckmann, Kate McGarry, Peter Eldridge and Dave Liebman. As frontwoman Julia Oschewsky impresses with convincing stage presence and vivid appearance. She sings with a persuasion that expresses something really personal. It’s hard to assign her music to a specific style: A game of colors and sounds, full of tension, lively, the improvisation playful and imaginative and musically obviously supporting the individual story of each song. The lyrics seem reflective and melancholic.Surely inspired by artists such as Pat Metheny, Kurt Elling, Julia Hülsmann or also Joni Mitchell, the quintet from Amsterdam has definitely succeeded during the last few years in finding its own language. Apart from original compositions, now and then also familiar Jazz-Standards appear in the context of the band, gaining unfamiliar interpretations. „julia oschewsky & band“ performed already on festivals and competitions such as a.o. the „New Generation Contest“ - „Jazz an der Donau“ in Straubing, the international Jazz Festival „Bingen Swingt“, the Amersfoort and IJazz Festival (NL) and the "Nederlands Jazz Vocalisten Concours 2009”. In 2009, Julia Oschewsky will concentrate on the presentation of the new album “Inner Game”.
